Arch pain

I am training for a half-marathon. During a run last night I started feeling pain in the outside of my left foot. I finished the run, then iced my arch. Now 12 hours later, the pain is still there. It hurts when I put any weight on the foot. The middle and inside of the arch is fine. It’s just the outside that hurts. Any advice? Thank you.

Hello and thank you for the question.

Without examining you it is difficult for me to say exactly what may be causing the pain. For anyone running or training for a marathon, overuse injuries are always a concern.

The overuse injuries that may be causing your foot pain may include plantar fasciitis, tendonitis or stress fracture. If stretching, icing and rest do not alleviate the pain, I would see a Podiatrist. If it is a stress fracture it will require a period of limited or parital weight bearing so it is best to rule this out early.

    Good luck!
