Ankle, Foot and Toe Pain

I’ve had peroneal tendonitis a few times, but this last time, after my cast was removed, my foot hurt even more. I couldn’t hardly walk on it for weeks. The outside of my ankle, foot, second and third toes hurt really bad. The pain also radiates up my calf. Some days it’s hard to even get comfortable. The x-rays didn’t show any signs of fractures, so I’m at a loss at this point. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Hello and thank you for your question. What type of cast were you in for peroneal tendonitis? I’ve never heard of putting on a cast for tendonitis. How long were you in the cast for?

Depending on how long you were in the cast, it’s possible that you got some sort of cast atrophy or weakness due to lack of muscle use. I would start by stretching and rolling your calves and bottom of the foot every day 5-10 minutes.

A gradual return to activity should always follow cast use.

    I hope this helps.
