Achilles pain

I am 69 yrs old and been having a lot of pain in my right achilles tendon. I do not run or exert myself at all. It mainly hurts upon rising in the am and after I sit for a while. Very difficult to walk on occasion. Think it may be ruptured? Thanks

Hello and thank you for your question. Sounds like you are experiencing some degeneration or inflammatio within the Achiles tendon. This does not necessarily mean that the tendon is ruptured. Degeneration and chronic inflammation around the Achilles tendon can make it weaker leading to small micro-tears. This would be picked up on Ultrasound or MRI. I’d suggest as your first step to go to a Podiatrist to have an evaluation and possible imaging done. I hope this helps
