Achilles and inner foot pain

Fractured my calceneus about 4 years ago and now every 4-5 months suffer from extreme achilles and central foot pain – lasts for 2-3 weeks then goes, self treat with rest, ice and ibuprofen – is there a way of speeding up recovery or a solution or will this be the pattern ongoing now?

Thank you for the question Richy.

Without knowing the severity of your calcaneal fracture it is hard to say whether the achilles tendon and central foot pain are related to the old fracture, or are a separate issue. In general, soft tissue pain such as achilles tendonitis and/or plantar fasciitis have either a biomechanical or overuse component. For patients experiencing frequent foot pain, I recommend daily foot stretching and myofascial techniques.

If you believe the foot pain is related to your old calcaneal fracture, I would see a Podiatrist who can assess if the fracture has altered your foot’s biomechanics and therefore is what’s causing the excess soft tissue stress.
