The 2nd toe on my left foot is swollen at the tip. It is red and shiny and very tender to touch. It has a deep throbbing pain. I have no other symptoms, or health conditions.
Thank you for your question. Without examining you it is difficult for me to say what exactly may be causing your foot pain, however I will give you general guidelines. Whenever I am presented with a patient with red, swollen toe I want to rule out infection or trauma to the area.
To rule out infection, you would want to see if there are any breaks in the skin or signs of pus. If you do not see signs of infection then I would try to remember if there was any trauma to the toe. Do you remember running into anything? Dropping anything on the toe? Sometimes shoes can cause excessive pressure to the toes causing repetitive trauma to the soft tissue of the toe.
If your pain persists I would recommend seeing a podiatrist who can better evaluate you. Good luck!
