Pain on the outside of left foot

Hello,

I have recently begun experiencing pain on the outer side/bottom of my left foot when I walk or when I tighten up my toes. It also hurts when I press on my foot right above the heel in the middle of the bottom of my foot, or on the outside/top of the left side. Could this be from wearing sandals all summer? Sorry if my description is confusing, it's tricky to put into words! The pain is not severe, it's more annoying than anything.

Thank you for any advice!

Thank you for your question. Without examining you in is difficult to specifically say what may be causing the pain. If you are having pain in the heel and outside of the foot this very well may be associated to wearing sandals all summer. There are seveal important tendons that run behind, under and to the side of the heel. Sandals are notorious for putting excess stress on the foot and increase ground reaction forces that we must absorb when we walk. I would recommend by integrating stretching excercises to the muscles of both feet, as well as wearing more supportive shoes which will better allow you to absorb ground reaction forces. If the pain persists, then I would see a Podiatrist who can better evaluate you and take an Xray. Good luck!
