Full Version: Possible bunion?

Hi, I have a question to ask. I have noticed since probably about last week that my right foot is sore and seems to be forming a bump on the joint just below my big toe on the inside of my foot(this is what I am calling my bunion). I believe it may be from my shoes I have to wear at work. These are new shoes and I knew my foot would get sore at times, but just noticed the small bump like last week. If it is a bunion, is it too late to change shoes for it to go away on its own? I plan on getting new shoes anyway, but was hoping that maybe I caught this soon enough for it to not be a problem. It is barely noticable and I definitely don't want it getting bigger if I can help it.
Thanks for any ideas.........

Changeing your shoe now could help. A bunion is a growth of bone but before the bone. Your foot is showing signs of stress in the form pain reddness imflamation. Change your shoes and your should see your foot slowly return to normal.

Dear Dale
Bunions don't usually grow over night. Bunions progress over a number of years, unless, there was trauma or surgery involved that caused the bunion to appear more quickly. Tight shoe gear can cause a bunion to form after a period of time, but again this would occur after wearing poor shoe gear over a number of years. Sometimes a "bump" may form on an area after wearing new shoes, due to excessive friction over a bony prominence which may cause a bursa to form. However, to correctly make a diagnosis, you will need to follow-up with a Podiatrist for an evaluation to rule out a bunion deformity.

Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,
