Hello,
In the ball of my left foot, under my big toe and a little to the side, i am suffering a great deal of pain. It's a constant (bearable) soreness whenever i walk but the real pain comes when i jump, stamp my foot or run - i get what feels like an electric shock shoot up through my foot and leg. I'm guesiing this has to do with shock absorbtion in my shoes so i think i can fix that, but the dull pain that is constant, is more worrying. Any ideas what's causing this and how i can get rid of it? There are no visible signs of pain.

Feeling of electric shock could be nerve involvement pain in the ball of the foot under the big toe slightly to the side could be sesmoid problems. Under the the big toe slightly ether side you have a sesmoid bone in the tendon that hold the tendon away from the joint center , alowing the tendon to pull stonger. The knee cap is the the largest sesmoid bone in the body, you leg would be much weaker with out your knee cap.
So your sesmoid under your toe could be pressing on a nerve or a nerve could be trapped. I fit continue it need to be checked out.
Hope this help

Dear Marchetti
Your pain may be due to a number of things such as a hallux limitus/rigidus resulting in arthritis, sesamioditis resulting from poor biomechanics and inflammation of the sesamiod bones/ligament structure or maybe even a stress fracture secondary to trauma or microtrauma. The point is, you will need to be evaluated by a podiatrist for a more accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.
Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,
