I am 12 weeks post op for MTP fusion with graft from bone bank, plates and screws, and also fusion of 2nd and 3rd toes. I had Keller procedure for this foot Nov. '05 and fusion of 2nd and 3rd toes on the same foot that failed. I just became FWB 2days ago. My question is that the big toe is angled to sit 1/2 on top of my 2nd toe which causes my 2nd toe to sit low and bear pressure and can't flex. My doctor said that typical angle is 15 degrees and my angle is 20-25 degrees. He said that I may be concerned of it at a cosmetic standpoint but I can't flex my other toes at all because of this. I have had 3 surgeries total on that 2nd toe and would not be able to stand a 4th surgery. So my questions are: 1) Is the angle going to be a problem when I go for shoes and can't flex the 2nd toe? 2) If this toe can be "tweaked" with the plate and screws in the toe already to be moved over a little?
Thanks!

The great toe (first) angle outward (Valgus) towards the little toes is not a big of a problem as the rigidity. Your big toe is not letting your second extend when try to role over your foot. If you can not role ove the ball of your for then you might need a met bar. If it is minor then 1/8" on the inside can be added or more can be added on the outside of the shoe.
Hope this helps

Dear Glastron
I think that you are going to have to wait and see. Sometimes the outcome may not visually appear to be the best but there may no longer be pain or gross deformity to the affected areas. Follow-up with your surgeon, he/she should be able to address all your concerns.
Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,
