To let everyone know I'm posting this everywhere I can. I really need help.

My father has a very serious problem with his feet. He's a doctor (chiropractor) and is only 45. Up until this point he has been to several podiatrists and has tried everything from soaking feet, dmso treatment, accupuncture, stretching. The problem started about 5 yrs ago when the weight of his bed sheets started causing pain on his feet. It has progressed to the point where he has complete numbness and no feeling from his toes to the top of his ankles. He has unbearable pins and needles and he describes a burning sensation. The pain is affecting everything he does. He has been on lyrica and is now back on neurontin. It's not going to be too long before he'll decide to have them removed. The appearance looks like they are mangled. example: he had to do work behind the school clearing and working in the woods, because he can't feel his feet he had no idea his boots were rubbing and causing discomfort. He has the biggest blisters i've ever seen on his heel and big toes now. he's dropped things on his feet and even cut them really bad without knowing it. He's constantly in the doctors office getting them cleaned up. I am desperate and need to find some answers or some #'s to the best of the specialists out there. he thinks it's a nerve/circulation problem. But i don't think he's sure of it or what is causing it. Please help if you can.

Thanks,
John M

Dear JohnM
It sounds like your father has peripheral neuropathy. Does your father have diabetes, ulcers? At this time Lyrica is one of the newest drugs on the market indicated for diabetic peripheral neuropathy as well as post herpetic neuralgia. Its effectiveness really depends on the patient, their individual response to the medication and the dosage. Your father's case sounds challenging and probably needs the help of a team of specialists working together in order to get the best outcome.

no he isn't diabetic. He has seen a nuerology specialist, she couldn't figure it out. Though I feel that someone out there can. It is getting really bad. Do you have any idea where I can find some really good specialists? We live about 1.5hrs north of phili, pa.

Dear JohnM
I would recommend that you take your father to the Foot and Ankle Center associated with the Temple University School of Podiatric Meicine in Center City Philadelphia. There are a number of very well trained and knowledgable Podiatrsits who will be able to help your father.
