For many years now I have had chronic pain in the left corner of my right big toe and the right corner of my left big toe, right above where the nail ends. If I bump into something there the pain is so intense. Even if something gets gently touched there it hurts. I don't think it is an ingrown toenail because I can lift the tip of the nail and see the end. I don't see it going into my skin. Just don't know what it could be. Any ideas?

Although noone here can tell you if its an ingrown nail because they can't see your foot, it sounds like its nail related. Sometimes people trim their nails in a way that makes them dig into the skin when there is pressure.

I think that the resident doctor here would tell you to see your local Podiatrist.

Be well

I am experiencing this same pain. I am trying to determine the source. It seems to feel better just after a shower. I've tried soaking in Epson Salts, applying antibiotic ointment and drawing salve. Nothing so far has solved the problem. My latest theory is that it is from wearing nail polish. I don't think this is the cause because it is only the top outer corners of the big toe nails that are sore.

Keep the forum updated if you learn anything.

UPDATE - I removed the polish and the pain went away. Should have tried that weeks ago.

Glad your better!! How much polish was there?

Toe polish fake nails can cause or cover up many toe problems. I recomend to runners before running to remove polish that way if their is a shoe problem they can see their nail beds.

Thank for the the feedback.

Dear Amy and SCM9
It sounds like you may be experiencing an ingrown toe nail. There are permenent and nonperment ways for approaching ingrown toe nails, the treatment is usually tailored to the indiviual patient's need. I too, would recommend that a visit to the Podiatist is in order.

Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,
