Whats up, I am 22 years old and very active, I wear shoes that fit me fine , however I have developed callus on the outsides of both of my big toes (there may have been blisters before the callus' formed). What is the best way to remove this so the sides of my toes are soft again. Also on the top part of my big toes ive developed light bruises that are not really painfull but jus tlook weird. They are almost unnoticeable but they still bother me. Anyone ahve any suggestions?

Dear Andy,
You are developping callus on the sides of your big toe due to increase pressure applied to those areas resulting from your gait pattern. I would suggest that you see a Podiatrist for an evaluation. Do not try to remove the callus on your own, seek professional treatment. Unfortunately I have been witness to patients who perform"bathroom surgery" and it has landed some of these patients in the hospital with horrible infection and almost a loss of limb.
Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,

Where is the bruise located on top? Is locates at the joint behind the nail (IP Joint) 0r closer to the ball of the foot ( First MTP joint). The calus can be from over pronation through the fore foot during late stance in gate and/or push off. A biomechanical evaluation of the the foot in nessisary to to determan if your anatomy and /or your coreography is cause the problem. Bruise can be from from ove using your extensor halicus longus to dorsiflex your foot during gate. ( It's the muscle attachehed to the tendon attached to the top of your great toe). I would suspect your calus pater across the ball of your foot is uneven ( thicker 2nd toe to fifth toe{pinky}).
Their are many things that could be going on your minor at this time.
Caluses are caused by a combination of pressure and friction. If you are wearing cotton socks through them out and try anti-shear socket most synthetic socks are anti-shear.
