Suffered with heal bone spurs for over two years had one foot that had spurs then yr later the second foot had them as well. Got to were i was no longer able to take the pain. Worked my 8 hr job and my feet would hurt so much that i ended up being stuck up stairs due to me not being able to walk any more . At that time my husband had to come and get me and carry me out . Been treating my feet with a foot specialist for year and half done all the exercises and took over the counter med and used prescription pain pills to to try to ease my pain. But to no availe nothing worked any more . My Dr. then operrated on both my feet at once at my request . Followed my Dr.'s orders stayed off my feet and used my wheel chair for over 2 months then i was able to use a walker for month. Now it has been 3 months without help to walk and im back seeing my Dr once again for the feet have not healed up correctly and not able to work still. My feet swell up if on them for over hour and the pain is so great at night now im trying to wear this foot brace to wear at night . Thus far it is not helping me and im frustrated to death . Had my operration back in Dec of 2005 . Is there anyone who has had this same trouble after having this operration ? My Dr. said my feet were so bad and that she had to cut so deep on my right foot and this is why im in so much pain due to the scar tissue . I had only 3 stitches on each foot. My feet itch alot and my husband trys to rub my feet. The Dr. said we are to rub the scar and try to get the scar tissue to break up and this is very painfull but she said it is required.
Anyone who can give me some ideas to try id be willing to try it . My next appointment with my Dr is April 4th and im scared that i will end up with another operration once again .
Thank - you ...Trisha

Have concidered a second opinion? an orthothopedic surgion who concentraits on feet, also a vascular doctor for the circulartor issues.
You might require rocker bottom shoes with custom inserts until you recover.
Info to all on bone spurs.
Bone spurs can be from the fascia pulling the the bone and or the fascia being over stressed and developing bone like deposits.
all in all about 35% of all people without heel pain have spurs, about 50% of all people with heel pain have spurs. I would conclude spurs are a better indicator of stress then of pain. Meaning people who have pain are more have something going that is stressing their feet which in turn is increasing the likly hood of spurs.
I personaly would recomend to someone before having surgery on a critical structure of the foot such as the plantar fascia to try lesser means such as custom inserts and rocker bottom shoes first. Wear a cam walker for a month and see if this works then casting the foot and so on.

I started with heal spurs last summer in my left heel. I went to my foot dr and he gave me a shot but it didn't help. I went for a second shot with no improvement so he ordered PT. I went for treatments and they showed me some exercises to do but after several sessions I had gone back to my doctor and told him it wasn't working. So he asked them to give me ltrasound treatments. After just the first treatment I noticed a big difference. I had a total of about 8-10 treatments. It wasn't totally healed but it wasn't hurting me everyday like it had been. Whenever I had been on my feet for a long period of time I would put ice packs on my heal at night, this seemed to help.
Suddenly one day I noticed....my heal wasn't bothering me....but still try to do the exercises they recommended.
I wish you all the luck, I know how hard it is to have foot problems.
I also have hammertoes (both feet) and bunions.

I don't know where you live but most good doc, pods no longer remove the spurs because that is not the problem it is the bands in your feet that have thicken, which is called Plantar Fascittis. Only the old school docs do the heel spur removal and the people I have talk to that had the spurs cut, come back. You need to find you a up to date doc. I wish you well!!! It would be the very last resort before I would ever let a doc cut on my feet because there is many people out there that never recover from EPF or heel spur removal.
