When I was little my foot was slammed in car door. Since childhood, I suffered from an ingrown toenail. I recently went to a doctor to see if there was a solution. He removed the Nail and noticed that my nail bed was damaged. He said basically there was nothing I could do. He said the nail would grow back ingrown. He was correct about that. My question, Is there anything I can do? I hate seeing this ingrown nail everyday.

Dear Adel
An alternative would be to have the nail permanently removed, however, keep in mind that this too will change the appearance of your toe since a toe nail will no longer be there. Anatomically speaking the nail plate is a structure that protects all the underlying tissue and bone beneath the nail plate. If you are experiencing a lot of pain you may want to consider this as an option, keeping in mind that which was discussed above. However, if your reasons are mainly cosmetic in nature understand that removing the nail may also be unattractive. Discuss this option with your podiatrist and make an educated decision.

I had painful ingrown toenails for 20 yrs and finally I went to a podrist and had 4 of them removed ( the nerves was killed so they would not grow back). I am so glad I did that 5 yrs ago. It was alot of healing time but not nothing compared to the pain from the ingrown toenails. Yes my feet are ugly but they do not hurt. Don't be along time sufferer get relief!!!!!!!
