I had hammertoe surgery on the 2nd toes on both my feet. Both 2nd toes developed a bone mass where they meet my foot. On my right foot however, my 2nd toe is sore & is leaning to the right. Foot discomfort is major on both feet encompassing the ball of both into the toes. I'm a walker & the distress I feel is almost intolerable with the pain and burning sensation. I've tried numerous insoles to alleviate the burning and pain. The 2nd toe on my left foot seems to have healed even though there is a bone mass where it meets my foot. I don't care to revisit foot surgery. I did physical therapy after the surgery and contined the manipulation in hopes of strenghtening the muscles and tissues.
I woulld appreciate imput.
I'm on my feet at least 8 hours a day not including PT.
Thank you.

I am replying to my own post - how is that for goofy. I had read the nasty reply ( the first for this message board) , made my post, and then read the total of re plies. Thank you everyone. I feel I have a start to figuring out my problem - which is also most likely more serious than I ever thought it was going to be.
I experience burning along with the metatarsal area pain. It was in only one foot but now it is in both of them. I was sick over Thanksgiving and had no foot pain at that time. Along with wellness, came the foot pain. I'm going to try the metatarsal lift pads.

Dear Linda
I would suggest a second opinion...If surgery is not something that you are interested in there are some products that may be available to help prevent the bones from rubbing against each other. However, you should really be seen by another podiatrist in order to get a physical exam and have your x-rays examined to evaluate the "bone mass" on your toes and foot structure.
Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,

What are the shoes that you wearing? how high is the heel? Do you wear socks? Do you have caluses on your foot? Met pads and met bars can offer relief but not if your wearing a 2in+ heel without a padded sole.
