i sometimes get blisters on the ball of the foot, especially after hiking in my hiking boots. i never know if you are supposed to drain them or not, what do other people do?

It is usually recommended that it is drained rather than having it rupture. But there can be medical considerations which depend on your health. I would suggest you see your physician to have it drained.
