Great Toe Pain
Sep 20 2005, 05:39 PM
I wish there were way to get a new foot LOL I had fusion of the Great Toe in mid March, and now because of the surgery and the big toe rubbing against the next one I keep getting painful blsiters on the 2nd toe. This has been going on for the past 5 weeks. I just came back from the podiatrist (not the one who did the surgery) and he gave me a foam to put around the big toe, but he said that if that didn't work I would need to get a toe seperatorthat is used for bunions to prevent this from continuing. One problem gets fixed (the arthritis) to cause another - continous blisters on the toe. I AM SO FUSTRATED!! Has anyone ever had toe surgery where the toes rub together causing painful blisters?

Dr M.L,
Thanks for your reply, but I am not planning to do another surgery if I don't have to, besides I had Hallux Rigitis not Hallux Valgus to begin with. They are different conditions with different care.
Thanks for your suggetion.

Dear Andrea
You may need a toe separator that is made of something that is more durable than tube foam, such as a "custom molded latex-type sheild" or "accumold device". The price will vary, depending on which will be made for you.
Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,
