Full Version: Sores on bottom of big toe...

All summer long I've had a problem with these small bumps that form on the bottom of my big toe. They look simular to small blisters, but if I try popping them or take nail clippers and cut the skin off the top it looks like a crater that goes into my toe. It then has clear fluid that comes out. (on a band-aid it looks a little yellowish) I've even tried smoothing the skin with a pumice stone and once the top layer of skin comes off of these bumps it has those "craters." Before these bumps break out you can see tiny dots up under the skin where the next one will break out...... sad.gif

These small bumps only come out 1-3 at a time and start off by itching. The skin around the bump seems a little puffy and rough. There is also tenderness and a little soreness. Then they itch so bad that I end up fooling with it until it gets very sore. I have tried using peroxide, antibacterial ointments, and also athletes foot medicine, all of which help with the itching and help it heal but they always come back. Plus I end up not using the athletes foot medicine long enough to see if it would work in the long run.

These bumps "travel", meaning that they don't just stay in one particular place on the toe but seem to break out in different spots on the toe. They have never broke out any where else on the foot or on any other toe, just my left big toe.

I injured this toe a year ago by stubbing it on the front outside steps. I went to the doctor when that happened because I cracked the toenail and tore a chunk of skin of the tip of my big toe. The doctor did nothing but give me an excuse not to go to work since I couldn't wear a shoe on that foot and flip flops were not allowed at my old job.

I hope someone could please let me know what this could be and what I could possibly do to treat it. My feet have always been in excellent condition and except for this toe still is. I will probably have to go to the doctor, but I am trying to avoid that if necessary because I do not have insurance with the current job I am on. I know that this is probably something a doctor will have to take care of, but I was wondering if any of you have ever heard of such a condition before??? I would appreciate any help you all will give. biggrin.gif

Dear Rachellee
It could be a number of things. It could be a callus, corn, wart or a type of dermatitis. The only way to make the diagnosis is on physical examination. Sorry I could not be more helpful. Go see your doctor, and have your condition diagnosed.

this happens to my daughter, too - it means there is an infection in the body, and an antibiotic will cure it - hope it helps you

Thank you all for your help! biggrin.gif I guess I will just have to make an appointment to see the doctor after all.

Thanks marinemom41 for letting me know that your daughter has had this as well. Can I go to my family doctor or will this have to be diagnosed by a foot doctor?

Dear Rachelle
I would recommend that you see a Podiatrist.
