I am hoping for some help...I am not a runner, but lately I have been training to be apart of a breast cancer run/walk event in my community next month. I have found that since I was a swimmer for most of my life that I do not know how to run the correct way. I am hoping for some tips.

I also find myself running like a duck with my feet sticking out...how can I fix this?

Dear Amy
Firstly, I would recommend that you make sure that you stretch before and after your run. Remember to stretch your upper and lower extremities as well as your back. Buy a comfortable pair of shoes that will help support and cushion your feet. Investing in a good pair of shoes will help you avoid trauma caused by poorly constructed shoe gear.
"Walking like a duck", is a common complaint. I usually hear that especially from our pediatrics population. It's usually due to flattening of the foot, however it may also be due to a more proximal origin, such as you leg , thigh or even hips.
If you wasnt to know the exact origin of your condition, I would recommend that you see your Podiatrist, who will be able to make that differentiation.

Good luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,
