I went to the podiatrist yesterday because for MANY (as far as I can remember) years my feet have been very dry, cracked, and peel. He said I had fissures under my toes on the bottom of my feet cause the skin peels and leaves like raw places. My heels are the worse and the bottom of my big toes. The dead skin buildup is awful. My feet burn nearly all the time especially at night. I can't stand wearing shoes or socks and I only wear sandals. He told me to wear canvas shoes with 100% cotton socks. My feet feel like they're on fire. He said it was a fungus BUT not athelete's foot. And he prescribed some ointment to kill the fungus first than I go back in a month to start treatment on moisturizing. There is also skin buildup on the big toes in the top of my knuckles. What he didn't tell me was what kind of fungus this is. I hardly ever wore shoes when I was growing up. I went bare-foot alot. And I can remember my feet being this way when I was young. My mom has the same thing but not the burning. Our feet itch alot to. He said the fungus was causing the burning, and itching.

i have used the personal pumi bar for my dry heels and calluses. my podiatrist gave it to me, but i re-ordered it online. i don't know if it is right for you, but I thought I'd post my info.

Hope you feel better soon.

Dear Lena
The only way to determine whether or not you have a fungus is with skin testing such as a PAS stain or KOH, however, in oder to determine what type of fungus you have a fungal culture would be necessary.

Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,
