Hello,
I feel that I have to get all of this off of my chest.
I have been dealing with my heel pain for about 4 years now. I have been to about 25 different doctors and even switched from Blue Cross to Kaiser in hopes that something would change. Every doctor I have been to has been very quick to tell me that I have Plantar Fasciitis. I have been given orthotics, a walking boot, night splints, physical therapy, you name it, I have tried it.
After trying everything under the sun and by this time I am now suffereing from stomach problems because of all the Motrin I have to take so I can walk, nothing has changed. My foot is now worse than ever. I am only 24 years old and cannot walk.
The doctors are stumped as to why nothing is working. The pain is now not only my heel but up the back of my ankle. I have been in a cast for two months and have had a cortisone shot which I don't think worked.
I finally had a bone scan on Tuesday which showed the bone damnge that I have. I do not know what is wrong with me yet. I was told that this test only shows that I have damage, now it is on to more tests.
This is so frusterating. Has anyone else been put through anything like this? I have many more stories about this, but would be going on forever. I am about to tell them to cut the foot off!
Thank you for letting me vent. =)

Dear Michele
An MRI would probably be the next best test. It will help to determine if there is any true damage to the bone as well as soft tissue.
Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,

Michelle,
looks like I do have same problem, I started running 2 years ago and my heels started paining. I was doing 4 to 5 miles daily, now I have to cut down and started strength training. But still though I do eliptical nowadays it pains, I told my doctor, he says try rowing... I want to run again but looks like I won't be able to do that again. I think you should rest for few days things should be fine.

My heel hurt alot and my arch hurts to. I have tried taking naproxen, I have had a couple cortizone shots but doesnt help. I have a couple custom inserts on order and i also just ordered an achilles tendon strap from some website. Do you guys have any info for me to help get rid of the pain?

Hi, I sympathize with you! I've had several different chronic pain conditions involving both my feet. At age 38 I had a bout of reflex sympathetic dystophy (the worst pain imagineable!), in my 40's I had fibromyalgia (intractable, from head to toe) and now at 53, I've been suffering for 6 months with plantar faciitis caused by achilles tendonitis. Since I have a propensity for chronic pain conditions, all of these conditions are likely related by some genetic thread. You may want to rule out fibromyalgia with a rheumatologist. Since the pain affects both your feet, it may mean that you have a systemic chronic pain condition similar to ones that have plagued me. One happy note is that I was able to treat each condition and eventually find relief. Most recently, resting my feet, doing gentle leg stretches (best done lying down) and using orthotics have been the most helpful. I hope you find just the right combo as well!

Need some insight please. I recently moved to the lovley city of Chicago and was so bloody excited. Whilst here two weeks; I decided to do a bit of training, when using the leg press machine everything went wrong. The machine I was using I thought I heard the click sound meaning the machine was locked and wouldnt come back to me. I suddenly look up and the whole machine has collapsed upon my right foot. I dont know anyone in the city and am well gutted not to be moving around but dont know what really to do. I was told to see a foot doctor locally but I cant get a taxi as I cant possible walk. The x-ray in casuality determined that I had a metarsil in my right foot and a chipped heal on the same foot as well. The list they gave me perscriped Vikadin and told me to rest, elevate and ice. Can anyone give me some insight into what to do and how long the healing takes? The machine was 100 kilo (222), pounds and at first lost complete feeling in foot. As of now I have a walker a special boot and ice, how long will this bloody take. Please email me at warrenfried@hotmail.com
Cheers, waz

I do hope your pain will soon be relieved , especially at such a young age. My prayers and thoughts will be with you.
I also was diagnosed with Plantar fascitis. Im a 17 year old Scottish Highland dancer. I've tryed stretching , shoe inserts ,and rest. Rest seemed to help best but I don't like doing that! The pain has worsened though. I have it in my heel when I wake up and as the day goes on , I get it bad in my achilles tendon , and my calf muscle. By the end of the day both my legs hurt badly , and sometimes its hard to get to sleep. My heels also get numb which is a very uncomfortable feeling! My parents are bringing me to the doctor soon , maybe a diffrent doctor. I have stopped dancing completley since july of 05. I just want it to go away I use to dance everyday and I love to dance , I competed often and absolutley love everything about scottish dancing. If I dance one day , it doesnt usually hurt while I dance unless I dance for a whole hour. But the next day no matter what my feet kill all day! Anyway I really hope it gets better for you and for everyone else because it truly is very painful!!!!

Lindsay Larsoe: I also have fibro (10 years). How did you get rid of it?

To all of you with pain and the stresses associated to no relief on pain. I noticed that there are no mentions of alternative therapies. I have e-mailed a few of you direct to offer this old modality; Reflexology. Check out the web for info in your area. If you are in the Southern California area, try this association for references or you can e-mail me at BbTrumpet8va@cs.com for optional sites.
www.footreflexologyawarenessassociation.org/
Reflexology is xlnt for reducing stress and pain for most health issues, especially foot pain. Special techniques applied to the feet and hands affect the whole body.
Don't discount it until you have experienced it. I have used it for over 20 years and avoided many surgeries due to bone spurs and other health problems.
Good Luck, Randy
