I have pain on the tops of my feet which is quite severe after a day on my feet (shopping, teaching, etc.) If I stretch my feet (toes pointed down) and massage the tops and bottoms several times a day and take motrin it is much more tolerable. I recently had fairly severe heel pain for several months, but it is now gone.
When I've been on my feet all day there is a strange swelling around my ankles (looks like little bumps under my outer ankles). I've never had anything like this before. Both feet are equally affected and I don't remember any injury recently.
Any help?

Dear Julie,
There are a number of things that your pain may be attributed to, such as improper shoe gear, hard surfaces, prolonged periods of activity and weight bearing, compensation due to heel pain, arthritis etc...or of course a combination of all of the above.
I would recommend seeing a Podiatrist, wearing comfortable shoes that have good support, avoid narrow and flat shoes and orthotics. You may try the over the counter type of orthotics or even custom made type if that is within your budget.
Your Podiatrist will definately be able to give you more appropriate advice, since he/she can evaluate you in person combined with your subjective history point you in the most appropriate direction.
Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,
