Hi,

i have a mild balance problem due to inner ear problem & medication i take for it.
my weight is shifted to the right leg. due to this my feet get mildly sore & i have minor problems with my left knee. again, this is chronic & mild. but yesterday i awoke and had tingling over my whole foot & several inches up the front of my shin (right side). no pain or loss of strength. foot looks normal. just tingling all over!

for the past several weeks i've been on my feet a great deal more than usual. i've never had anything like this happen. not sure if it's due to fatigue, pinched nerve, tight muscles, etc.

only thing that i did different the day before this happened was soak in a bath for a long period of time, late in the afternoon. felt fine afterwards & was fairly active in the evening, no signs of any foot problems. i don't know much about foot problems, not sure if a hot bath could cause any problems such as mild swelling which inturn might result in a pinched nerve.

i massage my feet at least twice a day. stretch my body from head to toe. that's why i was surprised at the sudden onset of the tingling thing.

based on my findings from the internet, i determined it's most likely a pinched nerve (although i performed a simple test (tapped with finger behind ankle) for TARSAL TUNNEL SYNDROME & there were no indications of pinched nerve.)
i massaged the foot & soaked it in cold water. this seemed to help abit. not much. i also stretched the calf muscles. no real immediate change.

today i awoke & the most of the tingling was gone. doing all the stuff above & really taking it easy & trying to stay off of the foot. the foot still feels funny but most of the major tingling is gone. if i sit done & put my legs a certain way, i get the sensation in my right foot like it's starting to fall asleep.

not sure if it's related, but one odd thing that i've had with my right foot over the years is that when i drive our blazer, the top part of my foot gets a slight tingling feeling. as if if were strained. my foot (right) is at a different angle when driving the blazer. it's bent more upwards toward the shin. i've also been driving the blazer alot more lately than our other car.

not sure what's going on. any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks

mike

Dear Mike
Probably the most common areas of nerve entrapment in the lower extremity occurs at the tarsal tunnel as weel as the head of the fibula( an area where the common peroneal nerve wraps around the head of the fibula). I would recommend that you see a Podiatrist for a physical evaluation in order to confirm and diagnose your condition properly.

Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,
