Full Version: Broken Heel and Pain Relief

Clint
Hello all, I am a construction worker and at least 7 months ago now, I fell about 15 feet and landed on my feet. Luckily My only injury was a broken right heel. I was borderline in need of surgery but the doc advised against it due to the fact I smoke. I manage to get around, I still limp, some days better than others, but the pain and discomfort ( and numbness ) are all still present. Not long ago I heard about a non-invasive electrical impulse proceedure at the University of Toronto (in Canada) and its relativly high rate of success. Has anyone else heard of this or had this done, or have any other suggestions for relief ?? blink.gif

Dear Clint
Heel fractures are not easy to recover from. Unfortunately, the literature states that even a 1mm displacement between the joints may result in arthritis. The nerve pain is also not uncommon. The type of therapy that you may have read about is probably "Anodyne Therapy". We currently prescrbe this form of treatment for our diabetic patients who have peripheral neuropathy, complaining of pain, numbness, tingling and burning sesnations to their lower extremities.

Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,
