Hello,... I am a patient of two Podiatrist here in my local area of Salt Lake City.
I was suffering from 3 Neroma's in my feet, 2 in my right foot, and 1 in my left.
They were causing major problems with my normal life style.
I went to the first Doctor who decided to try the Cortisone route first, and Injected both feet with 2 Injections in each foot. Week's later I could feel no difference.
I went back and he repeated that same treatment again! Still no differnce!
The third appoinment, he told me about a newer method of injecting the 2 main nerves in each foot with Alcohol, which I was told "Kill's the nerve" and therfore stops the pain? The Doctor acted very nervous about proceeding, and then said:
" I should tell you that sometimes this procedure may cause some skin pain and a tingling feeling! Yeah Right, both feet feel like they have third degree sunburns on the top, and ache like crazy! I told the doctor about this and he appologized and refunded my money. I was then refered to yet another Podiatrist, who was supposed to be the best around. He proceeded with treatment from the beginning
just like the previous doctor, even though I had told him I had been though the cortisone injections with no luck! He simply said, " Well sometimes it just takes longer to work". So he injected each foot with 2 shots in three different office visits. That's 12 shots 6 set in each! Still...no noticable differce.
The lumps in my feet stayed and were painful.
Then this doctor, decide to do an ultra sound and ended up verifing just what I was telling him. I had 2 neromas in my right and 1 in my left.
Finally this doctor decide surger was neccessary.
The surgery was schedule and done.
Afterwards I discovered that the doctor decided to cut both of the main nerves in both my feet or he severed 4 nerves.
I thought he would certainly put me out to do so, but he just mildly sedated me,( I was still awake during the surgery?) and then deadend my feet too.
Only when he went to cut each nerve? I about jumped off the table, he said just hang on, there is no way I can stop all the pain?
ALL OF IT? how about just some of it!!! I could feel him grinding through each nerve! There were two nurse's holding on to me while he preformed the cutting.
Well, folks... this all happened in May of 2002!!! I still have major lumps in both feet, only worse. I can't walk without pain, and certainly not very far, before the start swelling up! STILL, nothing has changed in 3 years????

Now I am a massage therapist, I have massaged, used Acupressure, magnets, and every kind of pain cream or anything else I could think of... every day ! I have to use some pain killers every night to sleep, my feet and legs jump and shoot pain up my legs uncontrollably.
I would really appreciate some other doctors input. AND....
IF THERE IS "ANYONE" OUT THERE THAT CAN SHED "ANY" LIGHT ON THIS SUBJECT, IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRIECIATED! THANK YOU!

The only thing you did not mention, which would of helped during your initial injections, is an orthotic with a metatarsal pad. The metatarsal pad lifts and spreads the met heads relieving the pressure being put on the nerve. Also, make sure you are wearing a shoe with a wide toe box and no heels, of course.

Yes...I did wear some inserts the doctor gave me, while going through the healing. I do not wear them now, because they cause the pain to be worse! I can't believe what has happened here.
