I have heel spurs in both my feet. I've had cortisone shots, have worn shoe inserts given to me by my doctor and I do the exercise recommended by my doctor. The pain in my heels are just as bad (if not worse) than ever!! Is there anything else I can do?? Thank you for your help.

If you have tried all conservative treatments, you may want to discuss surgery with your doctor.

Gosh! This is my first post and I was hoping to get some answers.

I have the plantar fasciitis and have had two cortizone shots and am having my orthodics made. I have been told I cannot go "walking" for 4 months. I've been used to doing about 4 miles a day. I'm bummed because I don't want to quit my exercising....I've started swimming at the gym and doing water aroebics using a aquajogger. I also want to wear my open toed heel sandals but.....
I'll be good and do as I'm told. I just want to know if you can ever go back and do the things you used to do?
Anybody with total healing out there? That went back to walking or running?
Thanks guys!

I have had the planters faciatisis surgery on my right foot and I had heel spur removal on my left foot. They currently want to remove the spur in the right foot as well but I will not let them because I was told for heel spur removal recovery time would be approx 3 to 4 weeks I am 4 to 5 months into my recovery and I have more pain in that foot now since they removed the spur as per the other foot that one feels great. highly recomentd the planters surgery/recovery is fast and the foot feels great...hope this helps

I had bad heal pain for about 4 years, to the point that I dreaded shopping or any other task that involved any amount of walking. I was told to stretch my feet by standing in a step down doorway on my tip toes and stretching my heals downward toward the lower floor. I did this twice daily, 10-15 reps each time and within a week my pain was better. Within a month or so, I was completely pain free. I would advise anyone with foot pain to try this, before resorting to surgery or shots. I was very skeptical, but it certainly has helped me and relieved my suffering.

Hi Brunner, you have brought a “light at the end of the tunnel” but have you had recurring pain ever since the exercises?
Reading your method to heal foot pain has made me happy but I couldn’t quite visualize how it’s done- “standing in a step down doorway on my tip toes and stretching my heals downward toward the lower floor.” I suspect I have plantar faciistic but had not seek diagnosis/treatment as I am in fear of injections and don’t want to go on medication. I have had heel pain since January this year and at times, the pain can be piercing. Heel pads gives relieve during the day but not long term and I dislike this item as it doesn’t stay put in the shoes while I walk..heheh. Exercise which I do at times is standing on a step with my heels outwards and doing upward(tip toe like) and downward(facing floor) movement for 10 times…which helped for a few minutes of pain free only.
Kindly explain further or rather provide the most easiest way for me to visualize on how I could go about your useful feet exercise so that I may heal in time for my trip to Perth this September. My email is kysw03@yahoo.com
Thanks very much.Really appreciate it.
Cheers,

Dear Kimmy
You may also want to try using a towel to help you with your exercise. While lying in bed, grab a towel, wrap it around the ball of your foot and pull the foot towards you. Hold the stretch for 10 seconds and repeat 30 times,

I had the type of surgery you are talking about in 2004 and it was a GOD SEND! I was very skeptical at first but I am 100% satisfied with that procedure! I went through the exercises, icing, orthodics etc....and surgery was the last resort but a great resort! I am pain free today!!!

Dear Debbie,
Treatment options to heel pain are: orthotics, injection therapy, stretching exercises, heel lifts, and rehabilitation. Another option is extracorpeal shock wave therapy (one can be a candidate if consetrvative care fails after a minimum of six months). The other option is surgery. Consult your doctor. If you must, get a second opinion.
