Hi There!
I had an ingrown toenail on my big toe which I clipped back myself. It seemed to be fine for a couple of days but then my big toe began to tingle as if there wasn't enough circulation going to the toe. It has been consistent for a week now. It is also itchy and it is itchy in the area on the ball of my foot surrounding the big toe now. Also, it is painful in the joint area of the big toe. A throbbing pain. I am not noticing any pain near the toenail anymore, only this area. Are there any home remedies for pain relief? I've seen a doctor in the past couple of days and she looked at my toe and said it does not appear to be infected, but it has gotten worse since then (the pain has not the look of it - to look at it, it doesn't appear abnormal at all!)...Any suggestions for me?
Thanks for your help!

Just to add, I wear flat shoes and have not made any recent changes to the footwear I wear.

The signs you should be looking for in an infection are quite obvious. The area of chief complaint may be red, hot, swollen, painful or tender. Also, there could be drainage such as pus and a foul odor. You may also be experiencing some fever, chills or nausea and vomiting. I would not recommend that you cut your nails as closely in the future, since it is quite possible that a portion of the toenail remains. I would suggest that you make an appointment with your podiatrist for a thorough evaluation and possible x-rays; epsecially if the problem persists or worsens.
