I have periodic pain & more frequently a persistent tingling sensation between Proximal Phalanges d&e where they meet Metatarsals d&e. It is a very specific area, I can not feel a bump of any sort, and when my foot is messaged and pressure is applied to that location it causes me to recoil in pain. The pain does not linger, but the tingling does. I wear broad tip shoes, usually Clarks. Is this likely a damaged nerve, & if so, is there anything that can be done for it? This has been an occasional re-occurance for several years.

The pain you are describing sounds like Morton's Neuroma. Normally the pain is between the third and fourth toe with this disorder, but it can occur between any of the digits. You will need an orthotic with a metatarsal pad. The metatarsal pad will lift the heads of the metatarsals (long bones) which takes pressure of the nerve that has become enlarged. For more information on Morton's Neuroma go to the Disorder section of Foot.com.
