I have two clients that have bad cracked heels. They get pedicures about once a month and it helps some but this is just masking the real problem. Is there anything I can use to help the heels heal. Thank you so much smile.gif

Well your patients need to be seen by a doctor to make sure that the fissured skin is not infected. There are preparations which help but this varies depending on the location of the cracked skin, depth, and overall health of the fissure. My recommendation would be a consultation with there PCP or podiatrist.

I've been using Olive Magic Skin Cream for my cracked heels. It seems to be the only thing that prevents cracking. I put it on once or twice a day. It would probably work even better if I wore socks after applying it but I never do. I have to put it on every day or they come back. I think wearing sandals with no socks is what causes mine. I got the cream here: http://www.olivemagic.com. It has olive oil and beeswax. I love this stuff.

An expensive doctor suggested that I use superglue (purchase a cheap variety and toss after each use so it's cleaner). Yes, it cost me $125 for that advice.

Press the cracks together so that the glue bonds the cracks together. Then, pain is reduced. Stop wearing sandals, apply an emollient ointment (I use Ultravate, a prescription product) at least three times a day, sleep in white socks with the lovely, greasy stuff on feet. It's not possible to stop this routine. It is just maintenance.

SBR or Aquaphor are alternatives if you can't get in to to see a skin specialist. In my area, the wait is around four months.

Good luck!

For dry and cracked heels I would recommend that you see your podiatrist for assistance in removing the dead tissue. At that point I would recommend using a prescription cream/ointment. There are a number of excellent products on the market these days depending on the extent of the problem. If the over the counter products are not effective, I would recommend the you try prescription creams/ointments or lotions.

Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,
