I have had severe heal pain for about 3 months. X rays show that that there is a fairly good size heal spur. My doctor is currently prescribing medicine and special
shoe inserts.

Assuming my current pain problem (plantar fasciitis) goes away with the medicine /inserts, what about the spur? Should it be removed? If so, is the ESW System a viable approach? (I have had shock wave treatment for kidney stones several times so I am willing to do it if the spur should be removed).

Thanks for any info on this

I would suggest going to one of the websites that describe Extracoporeal Shock Wave Therapy in detail. A search should pull up several informative sites.

The bone spur does not need to be removed unless it is causing significant pinching of a nerve (unlikely).

As I understand it, ESW is experimental, but promising. I'm not sure that it is necessary if the shoes & orthotics are successful.

Heel Spurs take time to heal. Give it time with shoes maybe a pair of brooks synergy with a graphite soft sole.
