Hi, I've been experiencing for about a week now a very slight burning sensation on the underside of my foot in the toe area extending to the ball of the foot. I've never experienced anything like this before, but I started looking up information on Athlete's Foot since I don't really know about many foot conditions. However, I don't have any other symptoms like these information pages describe. No itching, flaky or scaly skin, no discoloration, blisters or lesions. No visible signs of anything, just the slight burning in the toe/ball of foot area. It's not even that bad, it doesn't bother me much, I just notice it because it isn't usual for me. What could this be? Is it possible to have a fungal infection without many symptoms? It has been very hot lately and I've been wearing closed toed shoes/boots for work. Other than that, I don't recall stepping on any damp surfaces in public areas at all. Thanks for any information.

Yes, some individuals have a fungal infection and do not complain of itching, although most will. You may be suffering from a nerve alteration since they too can have the symptom of burning. However, nerve conditions also will often be associated with numbness, tingling and often pain. If you continue to have the pain or it worsens then seek medical attention as soon as possible.
