Last week I was walking along in sock feet and all of a sudden I started limping. I am 32 years old and play in a recreational soccer division. I had soccer practice on friday, but my foot didn't cause me any discomfort until Sunday. Now when I walk without shoes on or with runners my arch outside arch area is very painful. When I wear 2" heels it doesn't bother me. Also in bare feet I feel (hear) a grinding, stretching sensation in my outside arch area. Also at the end of the day, my calf muscles aches slightly. What could the problem be. To poke or press on the area of the foot it doesn't hurt. No signs of bruising. Help.

It sounds as if you could be suffering from plantar fasciitis. This is a condition that occurs from overuse and results in pain to the heel and arch area. This plantar fascia runs from the heel to the ball of the foot and overstretching can result in inflammation and pain. This is often alleviated with icing, stretching and orthotics (arch supports). You should seek medical attention with a podiatrist for a thorough evaluation and to rule out a heel fracture.
