Pain the heels can be the result of a bone spur or plantar fasciitis. The plantar fasciitis is a fibrous band which runs from the heel to the ball of the foot and hurts with stretching. Most individuals complain of the pain with the first step in the morning or after periods of rest. The spur may be present and irritating the plantar fascia during stretching resulting in the inflammation. This can be relieved by stretching exercises, icing the area and the use of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication. I recommend that you make an appointment with a podiatrist for evaluation.
