A few years ago I really hurt my foot and to this day... it's swollen. I have tried PT, some kind of sleeve that you wear on your foot to push out the swelling... nothing works! I know that I twisted it really bad and continued to walk on it because it was the end of basic training and I just wanted to graduate. I didn go to the ER where they had to cut off my boot and took x-rays but the swelling was so bad that they couldn't do anything.

So not it's several years later and I am tired of trying to find a shoe that fits my "fat foot" and still fits my nonfat foot. Here lately my foot has really been hurting. I've had several skin fever's in my leg and the Dr said it was sue to the swelling and circulation in my foot.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to reduce the swelling?? I'm going bak to the Dr and telling him that something HAS to be done! I'm wondering why after all this time my foot is still fat! mad.gif

"sleeve that you wear on your foot to push out the swelling... nothing works!" did this sleeve use an air pump to squeeze your leg?

" x-rays but the swelling was so bad that they couldn't do anything." Does that mean they found something in the X-ray?

Your foot is it smaller to normal in the morning when you wake up then get bigger to wards the end of the day? or does the size stay about the same.

Have you tried compression hose? A Jobst splint?

Boot camp are in in the military or police force?

More than likly adema is a better term than fat and ademitus is what you would describe the condition of your foot.

look at this site

Hope this helps

I have tried the sleeves with the air pump and stockings that are really tight on your foot to tryand push out the swelling... nothing. It was Army boot camp and it was 2 weeks before Christmas of 97. I was marching to EOBT and twisted it. we were martching on the side of the road and where the blacktop and the gravel ment there was a hole and I just happened to step right into it and my ankle went out then in and rolled. I went right down and that was it. I walked on it because I didn't go through 8 weeks of foot.com to not graduate... but later that night I went to the ER where they cut my boot off and told me that I had 2 choices... fix it and stay in the hopsital till after the new year or be discharged with nothing. Now being home sick and just wanting to go home for christmas.. I took the discharge. My step dad was in the air force at the time so I went to PT through the air force and we tried wrapping my foot tightly so I couldn't move it... it didn't work. The Dr said that what ever I did I really messed up my ankle. I have trouble to this day standing on my right foot for a long period of time. I just want the swelling to go away but I don't think that will ever happen. And when I was 8 month pregnant with both of my kids I couldn't put a show on my right foot. It was really bad!

To answer your question... it's the same size all day. The picture of the foot at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/imagepages/19607.htm looks just like my feet. One is normal and the swollen foot is exactly like my foot everyday. I can't wear shoes that have no give. The shoe has to stretch some for me to be able to get my foot into the shoe.

You need to see a foot health professional preferable more than one. Such an Orthopedic Doctor, Podiatrist and a Phyatrist (that a Doctor in physical medicine and rehabilitation) their are many more but those are the ones that are on the top of my mind.

All I can recommend is more comfortable compression socks and more accomadative shoe like:Ambulator® T1200,Ambulator® T1220, Ambulator® T1230 ( look at www.foot.com/shopping/index.php?cPath=25_53&osCsid=v4ik2q860nq31g9bc2qifgco22)

Also you could look at PEDORS or Crocs(www.crocs.com/home.jsp)

Did you receive coverage from the military for your injury?

Hope this helps

I've been to a podiatrist but he wasn't really worried about my foot. I really want to see another podiatrist and see what they say. No~ I didn't receive anything from the Army. I went back and forth with the VA but in the end they decided that since I just discharged and didn't do a medical discharge that I won't get anything. Which really sucks!

I have crocks! I wear them all the time! I was oustide the otherday and I stepped on something and it went right through my crock and cut into my foot... my swollen foot of course! ohmy.gif

Thanks for your help!

Get a copy of your medical records, check this site out and file claim in that order. www.moaa.org/quicklist/serv_benefits_pay/serv_benefits_pay_compensation/serv_benefits_pay_disability_claim.htm

It's about VA Claims and there is no time limit on claim but it is recommended to file with a year of discharge.

The bureaucracy wants to discourage you from making claims even if they are legitimate.

Crocs are not protective from punctures take look at the outdoor Crocs their soles are much thicker so it take a much longer object to get through.

Check with someone other than a podiatrist also.

take care
