I recently started wearing boat shoes, and I've been having a problem where it's rubbing the back of my heel on my right foot only. It rubs away at the skin and causes it to bleed. Is there any way I can fix this?

The most important thing about boat shoes as far as captains would be concerned is the soles are non-marking. The next is the shoe has good traction on the deck the next is they can get wet the next is if you go for a swim they don't act like anchors.

All in all your shoes are slipping I would guess. Do you wear socks with the shoe it is common to not wear socks. Men or women can wear the little nylon booty socks similar to the to the nylon socks you wear at the shoe store as some sort of barrier, or wear any other white sock you like see any episode of Gilligan's island sailing cloth are not fashion items visibility is important on the deck and in the water. If you are planning to crew a sail boat anyone you listen to for advice must at a minimum know what a boom is.

If socks don't work I would recommend a white court shoe that has non marking stamped on the sole.

If that does not work you need to have someone look at you feet and shoes.

Happy sailing

Actually, I wear them just because they look good. I currently have to wear socks cause the back of my heel gets hurt pretty badly if I don't. But I'd prefer not to wear socks though. Is there anything I can do?

First: Changing your lacing can help goto www.theathletesfoot.com.au/content.cfm?pid=8283

Try
Technique 3 Loop lacing, narrow heel

Second: Goto a shoe repair or and medical supply and get mole skin and place it where your rub the shoe.

Third: buy a supply of bandaids good strong ones and put them on your foot "before" you get hurt. They have allot of nifty bandaids from power rangers to what look like flat slugs for burns.

fourth: go to your drug store foot care and look at products that prevent heel slipping.

Let me know which one you try and how they work for you. smile.gif

Dear Backlash
You may consider applying something over the counter to the heel area, called second skin, it's a gelatinous product in the form of a sheet. It can be applied directly to the affected area. Or you may apply a simple bandaid. Due to the friction of the counter of the shoe against your heel you are developing this blister which may eventually become a callus and the skin may appear darker due to the chronic friction to the area. Consider also alternating your shoe gear.
