unsure.gif Dr wants me to have surgery to correct problems caused by bunion on my right foot. have been told by some that I should and told by others who have had this surgery that it is not worth the pain I will go through. Pain I can take if I know the out come will be good. Greatful for any help with this decision. unsure.gif

My recommendation to patients prior to considering surgery is always the same. If you are having pain/discomfort or having your life altered by limitation of motion as a result of the deformity then you owe it to yourself to at least research the option of surgery. You can not always base your decision on how others did with a surgery since each case is different and what one experiences may not be the same as another. However, I always recommend a second opinion if you have reservations with the diagnosis or treatment plan.

tongue.gif Thanks so much for your advice. It is appreciated. Two Dr.'s have said yes to surgery so guess I will go for it. Not ver happy about having pins in my toe but guess thats the way it has to be done.

Thanks again
DOCTOR DNK
You are quite welcome and I am glad to see that you have done your homework and had more than one opinion. the key now is to follow your doctors instructions and stay off the foot as much as possible during the healing time to reduce the swelling. Good luck and keep me posted.

Hello

I had my bunion removed on my left foot on Feb. 5, 2004 and it is healing very well. I have a little swelling when I put my shoes on however it is not a discomfort and I continue soaking my foot in warm water and epson salt daily. For the appearance which is my concern, I use Palmer's cocoa butter, vitamin E scar serum which seems to be improving the appearance. On March 18, 2004, I had my right foot done. Needless to say I have not had the stitches removed, but I'll keep you posted. I just pray that my feet heal properly.

Much luck to you and I will keep you posted on my success!

Thank you so much for the feed-back. Please do keep me posted on your progress and I will do the same. wink.gif

sad.gif I had bunion surgery 6_30-06 On both feet and both sides. (Big toes and pinkys) My feet feel like old lady feet!! I just want to be able to kickbox and dance again. It is a long recovery. be perpared. When I feel good about it I will let you know. My doctor was unrealistic about my recovery said I would be kick boxing in 6 weeks. One foot done will be better then both. I didn't want to go through recovery twice!

Rather have bunion pain then this. Maybe.... I will feel diffirent later.

Dear Suez
It's important to have realistic expectations, especially when it comes to surgery. Take the recovery period seriously and remind yourself that your body will take time to heal.
