I have the Morton Toe condition - my second toe is noticeably longer than my big toe. I HATE it. I can't wear open toed shoes with confidence and even wearing socks in front of other people is embarassing because my toe pokes out. I don't have any pain caused by the condition, just low self esteem. So has anyone had this fixed surgically and was it successful? I am very interested and can't find much info about surgeries on the web. Do I contact a cosmetic surgeon or podiatrist for the procedure? Thanks.

Morton's syndrom is a normal foot. A podiatrist might peform this surgery a orthopedic surgion who speacalizes in feet (in my opinion is very qualified to do this procedure) might performit.

I have found and artical and a site.

Do not take this sugery lighly. I am currently work with patient who lost four toes due to complications from a cosmetic procedure. I have had patients that have had some permanent disability.

Unfortunatly I only see what can go wrong.

If you are modifying a normal healthy foot what advantage to you hope to gain?

Is it worth permenant scaring? Disability?

If you change this will your self esteem be premananly improved or will it go on to the next perseaved flaw?

Get a large group of bare footed people together and compare feet. Are your feet that much different or are you just ficated?

Please do not harm your feet. Take care please let us know what you decide.

Dear bz
There are definately procedures that can be performed for long second toes. If you are interested in surgery, it is a good idea to educate yourself in terms of the risks and benefits associated with surgery, especially since in your case, your motives are more or less due to cosmetic reasons. I would go to a qualifed doctor who has a good reputation and is a good surgeon, surgical podiatrist or orthopedic surgeon who has specialized in the foot and ankle.

Good-luck and thank-you for contacting foot.com,

Two weeks ago I had surgery to correct a bunion, hammertoe, and Morton's toe. For Morton's toe, the Orthopedic Surgeon shortened the second metatarsal bone by approx 1/2 inch to better align the toe joints and improve weight bearing of the foot. First, I would not suggest doing this surgery for cosmetic appearances only. (I had the surgeries due to Morton's pain and ineffective non-surgical options). Second, an Orthopedic Surgeon is the only individual I recommend for this surgery. A good Orthopedic Surgeon will not do this surgery for cosmetic purposes only, as they know the risks and potential problems that can be generated. We take our feet for granted, but they are relatively complex.

Additionally, it is 2 weeks now and I am still using crutches...
