Hello,
I have a sharp pain all across the top of my left foot. The thing is it really isn't painful when I'm sitting or when I walk around, it just hurts when I wiggle my toes up or down. I think what's hurting is the tendons that go from my ankle out to my toes (those web like things in the top of my foot

). Sometimes the pain will shoot all the way up into my shin. But it's mostly painful twards the knuckle of my toes and the top of my foot. I am on my feet most the time at work, but when I first noticed it I was in bed. Perhaps I just need a change in footwear?
Thank you for any advice.

Changing shoe that are wornout is always a good start (running shoe need to be replace 350mile -450 miles of wear on average).
Next is look at the way you run. Do youover stide ? Are you hard on your heel?
Are your muscle mechanics off. Do you use your toe extensors moe than your anterior and posterior tibialis.
Test: sit down bare footed rest your arms on your knee so you feel some body weight on your feet. Move your feet forward so you can lift the ball of your feet.
When you lift the ball of your feet, do you lift your toes up first? Can you lift without useing your toes?
If when you relaxed your toes your foot lift becomes noticably weaker you could have a muscle imbalance.
And that could be hurting the tendons across the top of your foot.

Thanks delavo for your reply. On the test, my toes don't go up and I can lift without using my toes. But if I point my toes up while I have my heel up the tendons feel more painful. I think it's gotten a little better the past couple of days, but it still hurts when I wiggle my toes around. It actually feels better twards the end of my work day standing or walking for 8 hours. Kind of strange I think. Maybe some downtime this weekend might help.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Dear Racing Man
The pain can be secondary to a number of reasons: over use, tendonitis, bursitis, hammer toes, arterial insufficiency, peripheral neuropathy or restless leg syndrome. I would recommend that if there is no improvement that you follow-up with a Podiatrist for an evaluation.

Dear Racing Man
I would check to make sure that you are not tying your shoe laces too tightly and also to follow-up with your Podiatrist to rule out any sort of nerve impingement condition.
