Hi, my name is Courtney and I'm 15-years-old. About a two and a half years ago, I noticed that my right foot was extremely swollen. I seem to have a dull pain everyonce and a while and I don't know what causes it. I have been to several doctors and have had every test done I can imagine (MRI, Bone scans, x-rays, blood tests, etc.) I was a dancer from 3-12, and doctors may have said that could be the root. But, it hasn't healed. I have orthotics that I wear all the time. The pain doesn't go away and comes at random times. I have no idea what I can do, because nobody else knows. Does anybody know of a case like this? Please help me... I'm young and I want to be able to do things like other people my age. This doesn't seem fair.

It sounds as if you had every form of imaging available. I wonder if any of them showed a possible coalition. A coalition is the fusion of two bones that ordinarily should not be connected. The can be connected in different ways and if it is not an osseous union it may not show up on the modalities. Often this occurs in teens, males more commonly then females. It often hurts in the midfoot and can also cause spasms. The orthotics usually help this, however some require fusion of the area to restrict motion and by restricting motion you reduce the pain. This may be a differential to your situation.
