Hello,

I have a minor question about the seriousness of my foot injury. 1 week ago, 2/19/2004, I was playing soccer. During the game when I was extending my leg to shoot the ball, I instead met someone else's foot. I felt some sharp pain, so I went to the sidelines to ice it. Afterwards I was able to walk home, though with a noticeable limp.

The next day it had swollen up pretty bad, and was pretty painful to walk on. So I iced it all day and by the next day it was pretty painless to walk on.

A week later (now), there is only pain if I press directly where the impact was, about 3 inches from my toes, on the top of my foot, and if I try to lift my big toe off the ground as far as possible. However, I can walk 2+miles with little to no pain, and the foot can support my whole weight without any pain at all.

Does this just sound like a bad bone bruise?

Note: Bruises started to show a couple days ago along my toes. Again, about 3 inches away from the impact.

It is quite possible that you could have a bad bruise, but it is also possible that you could have fractured the area. Fractures can present with swelling, pain and bruising. I recommend that you go see your podiatrist for an evaluation and x-rays. This is really best to rule out a fracture. Also, you may need some soft cast or compression dressing along with limited weightbearing to heal properly.
