I have had bunion surgery on both feet (Bilateral Wilsons Osteotomy for anyone interested). I have been very happy with how little pain I suffered through recovery, but 6 weeks after my plasters were removed, I still can't seem to walk normally. Both my big toes are still slightly lifted off the floor, and, although I can bend them quite well with and without pushing them with my fingers, I don't seem any closer to getting them to bear any load when I walk. This makes the rest of my foot ache with the strain. Are there any special exercises or "braces" I should look at to correct this. I want my feet to work properly again.
Thanks for any (polite) suggestions!
DOCTOR DNK
You should discuss these issues with your surgeon. Maybe a few sessions of physical therapy can help you to gain the range of motion that will be necessary to get you more ambulatory. Discuss this with your doctor and also find out if your insurance will cover for this service.
