[B][SIZE=1]Hi my name is Denise and I have been having this terrible foot pain on the top of my foot. There is a bump or knot rather. Seems like it is a vein, it moves from side to side if pushed. But when you touch it it makes my toes go numb. Or they tingle likek they are asleep. The pain comes and goes but the bump stays there and the numbness is there if I touch that spot on the top of my foot. This episode of the pain has lasted now for three days and the area where the bump is is all red and my foot is swollen. My toes are going numb just sitting. I wear very loose fitting shoes, but being diabetic it worries me. I don't want to go to the doc if I dont have to.
Does anyone have any advise or information about this. I still have good pulses in the foot. Just pain when walking.
Thank you

It sounds as if you could be suffering from a ganglion cyst. These are quite common and occur a lot on the top of the foot. Do you recall any trauma to this area? If yes, then it is quite possible that you developed a cyst which is now pressing against the nerve and this is causing your discomfort. I recommend that you make an appointment with your podiatrist so that he/she can examine you. They will probably take x-rays to make sure that there is no bony involvement. However, you mentioned that it can move from side to side so it sounds more like a ganglion.
Ganglionic cyst usually involve simply drainage of the fluid followed by some compression dressing. These cysts do have a high recurrence rate so you should be aware of that as well. Also, you may find that wearing a shoe that does not lace up or press against the area will also bring some relief.
