Terri Stafford
Hello,
It was recommended that I have 5 surgical procedures on my left foot to help a cavovarus foot related to traumatic brain injury. Some of the procedures include Dwyer osteotomy, Strayer procedure, anterior tibial tendon transfer, clawtoe correction, andJonrs procedure. I will need 8 weeks non weight bearing post op. How does anybody do that? I don't think I could stand crutches. My bath is on the 2nd floor. How do I get up steps? Thank you for any advise.

Dear Terri
Unfortunately, following those procedures, you will definately need to be nonweight bearing for the suggested period of time, if not a little longer. The patients are usually placed on crutches, however, if they are unable to manuever with crutches the alternative is a wheelchair. Prior to the procedure or leaving the hospital, most patients are "crutch trained", the training includes, walking with crutches as well as going up and down stairs.

Good-luck and Thank-you for contacting foot.com
