Hello,
I recently ran a race and now I have a pain in my foot. I cannot pinpoint the area that hurts. It is just a general aching. Can you suggest what I can do for it? I have not run for about 2 weeks since the injury, and it is still painful.

Did you check out the foot pain identifier on this site? You can click on different parts of your foot and see what might be causing the problem.

Using an orthotic device can provide significant relief by supporting and controlling your foot. I suggest you consider an over the counter device such as a Lynco Orthotic. These orthotics have the option of being posted or neutral and with or without a metatarsal pad. If your feet are flat, you will want the posted, if you have pain at the ball of the foot you will want a metatarsal pad. These products can be found in the product section of Foot.com.
It is important to make sure the orthotic fits properly in your shoe, and that you increase the use of the orthotic gradually to allow your foot to accommodate. Start with 1-2 hours the first day and increase your time each day until you are comfortable with the orthotic in your shoe all day. You may want to consider going to a shoe store that can measure and fit you properly. You will find a list of dealers on Foot.com.
Another consideration is physical therapyand antiinflammatory medications. We encourage you to see a physician if your problem persists.
